Under the sea is where I always like to be! Whether it's spring, summer, winter or fall, I love to escape to the ocean. Unfortunately I haven't found a way to permanently live at the shore full-time (yet!), so instead I will have to recreate my own little seaside paradise in the meantime!
Growing up in southern Texas, my family always visited the coast a few times each summer. We would stay in a timeshare right on the beach in Port Aransas. The summer before I turned 10yrs old we moved to Turkey, thanks to my dad's career with the Air Force, and our summers were spent on the Mediterranean and Aegean Seas...talk about a rough childhood! We would stay in a sleepy seaside town with a few other families and soak up the salty air, sunshine and culture. I lived for those beach getaways as if my life depended upon them. We moved a few years later, and our beaches turned to the sandy shores of lakes instead of the ocean, but I'll always cherish those long, lazy summers with the salt air in my hair!

As I styled this Mermaid Splash Bash for Oriental Trading Company, I thought of those early days spent at the coast and was transported back to my childhood. I dreamed of spotting real-life mermaids and living in my own sandcastle!
The colors of this party instantly transported me to the seaside and I could practically hear the waves crashing and smell the wonderful salty air as I crafted.
No trip to the beach was complete without a huge picnic basket full of goodies prepared by my mom. Popcorn, Goldfish® Crackers and cookies of some sort always seemed to make their way into our stash, so I couldn't help but add them to our dessert table.
The gorgeous (and so yummy) cookies by Say Anything Bakery were *almost* too pretty to eat, but we managed to take one for the team and gobbled them right up!
