For what ages are your parties best suited?
Parties at Made of Sugar and Spice are designed for girls ages 3 and up. For the younger girls (ages 3 - 6), we suggest the Garden Fairy Party, Princess Party, Pinkalicious Party, or Fancy Nancy Soiree. The Rock Star Party and Posh Pet Paw-ty can be customized to fit any age. The Sugarlicious Spa, PJ Jammie Jam, and Fashionista Parties are all great options for tween girls or ones that have already had a Princess or Rock Star Party. These are merely general suggestions and definitely not anything set just for those ages!
How do I reserve a party date?
You can either book your party over the phone by calling us at 972.693.6141, or utilize our online booking system. A non refundable $125.00 deposit is necessary to secure your reservation. The deposit is non-refundable and must be received at time of booking. For your convenience, we accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover.
What days of the week are available for parties?
Parties can be scheduled any day of the week, with Friday, Saturday and Sunday being our most popular. Our Tuesday - Thursday schedule is 5:30pm - 7:00pm. Our Friday schedule is either 4:30pm - 6pm or 6:30pm - 8:00pm. The Saturday schedule is as follows: 10:30am - 12:00pm; 12:30pm - 2:00pm; 2:30pm - 4:00pm; 4:30pm - 6:00pm; and 6:30pm - 8:00pm. Our Sunday schedule is: 12:30 - 2:00pm; 2:30pm - 4:00pm; and 4:30pm - 6:00pm.
How long does a party last?
With the exception of the Tea Party, Spa, and Pet stuffing parties, all parties are 1 1/2 hours long. The Tea Party, Sugarlicious Spa, Fancy Nancy Posh Puppy and the Posh Pet Paw-ties are 1 hour and 45 minutes. There is also the option to add an additional 15 minutes to your party for $45. We are proud to celebrate ONLY ONE birthday at a time, and our parties are generally spaced only 30 minutes apart on the weekends. If time permits, presents can be opened at the end of your party.
Is it possible to take a peek of the venue before booking a party?
Absolutely! If you'd like to see a party in action, you're more than welcome to stop by on the weekends. Typically, we are open Friday 4:30pm - 8pm, Saturday 10:30am - 8:00pm and Sunday 12:30pm - 6:00pm for parties. We strongly recommend calling or emailing to double check our hours; in the event there is a change. You are more than welcome to set up an appointment to come see our party place during the week at your convenience. Please call 972.693.6141 or email to set up an appointment. How far in advance should I book my party?
We suggest booking parties at least 4 - 6 weeks in advance. However, if you need a last minute date, please call or email to check availability.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept cash, debit cards, and major credit cards for deposits. Checks are NOT accepted. Please use cash, debit card, or a credit card when paying your balance at the end of the party.
What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule my party?
All deposits are non-refundable. If you need to postpone your party, you may postpone once without penalty, provided you've offered no less than 3 weeks' notice. If a party date needs to be changed for reasons other than illness, inclement weather, or family emergency, the client is responsible for paying an additional deposit fee of $125 to Made of Sugar and Spice, due to loss of income, in the event the opening left by the original date is not booked. We understand life happens and children become ill, etc, therefore we will review each situation on a case-by-case basis when determining the extra fee. We will gladly work with you to find an alternate party date for your consideration. If you choose to cancel our services for ANY reason, your deposit is forfeited. Deposits cannot be applied to other services or merchandise. All parties must be rebooked within one calendar year of the original booking date or the deposit is forfeited.
When do you need the final count of guests?
A final headcount is required three (3) business days prior to the party. An email will be sent the Monday prior to your party date requesting a final head count.
Is there a minimum or maximum number of guests I can invite?
The package price is for 9 girls plus the birthday girl, for a total of 10 guests. If less than 10 attend your party, you will still be charged the same amount. Attendance over 10 guests will be charged an additional rate per person. Additional charges per girls varies depending upon the package, see package details. Please consult Sugar & Spice for a maximum number of guests, as we always try to accommodate your needs. We are equipped to comfortably seat a maximum of 20 little guests. IMPORTANT: A service charge of $30 is applied to parties with 13 - 18 girls ATTENDING - or - a CONFIRMED party of 13 - 18 girls for the addition of an extra hostess. Add a $50 service charge for parties with 19+ girls or a CONFIRMED party of 19+ girls for the addition of an extra hostess(es). This is in addition to the price per extra guest. Parties with 18+ guests MUST add an additional 15 minutes party time ($45), however, a full 30 minutes ($75) is best to ensure a more smooth party experience.
What if I have twins, triplets, or best friends that want to have a party together?
Our packages are priced for a total of 10 girls, which typically means 9 party guests plus the birthday girl. If you have twins, triplets or friends that want to share a birthday party, subtract the number of birthday girls from 10 to figure out how many guests are included in the package price (eg. if you have twin girls, the package price will include the twin birthday girls + 8 guests for a total number of 10 girls). Extra girls are always welcome, the price per extra girl depends upon the package chosen.
How early may I arrive before my party time?
The Sugar & Spice Hostesses are at-the-ready to assist with any and all set-up needs and are experts at arranging birthday treats to ensure a stunning display for your guests. Rarely does this takes longer than 5 - 10 minutes, therefore we kindly request you arrive no earlier than 10 minutes prior to your party time. (e.g. party starts at 12:30; you can arrive at 12:20). We know your little ladies are eager to get their party started, however, we do need time to allow for cleaning, etc, between parties to guarantee the best party experience for you! We reserve the right to charge a $45 Service Charge for any parties arriving 15 minutes or more early. You are welcome to drop off your cake and/or other birthday treats for safe keeping if you find yourself in the downtown area earlier than expected.
What should party guests wear?
Guests should dress comfortably, as they please, as they will be dressing up upon arrival. You may ask your guests to wear leotards, bodysuits or bathing suits under their street clothes if they'd like, although not necessary. If you have booked a Garden Fairy or Ballerina Party, it is suggested that guests wear a leotard or one-piece bathing suit to the party. Please note this on your invitations. Girls dress in tutus and wings and therefore require a layer of clothing underneath.
What happens if guests arrive late?
Our parties are packed with fun and follow a schedule. Guests who arrive late may join the party at whatever point the party has progressed. For example, if the guests have already completed makeup and hair and have started dancing, the late guest will skip makeup and hair and join in the dancing.
Do parents have to stay for parties? Do you have seating for parents?
Parents and other adults are always welcome to stay, however, it is not always necessary. We have room to comfortably seat 12 adults, as well as ample standing room. We only celebrate one party at a time, so it will be just your group. If there are not enough seats, parents usually make the best of it and stand around and chat while the girls are playing. One other point to consider is that we will have at least 3 staff members on the floor with the girls and someone up front. We will make sure everyone rotates through all of the different activities so that you can enjoy the party, take pictures, mingle and not worry about managing time and 10 little girls!
Can other guests or siblings stay for the party?
Parents and other adults are always welcome to stay; we have seating for approximately 12 - 15 adults with additional standing room available. Made of Sugar and Spice is located in Historic Downtown McKinney with lots of shopping, eateries and a lovely "Main Street" feel that is perfect for strolling. Siblings must be supervised at all times in the boutique with adults, unless they are one of the guests. Siblings (of any age), who are not guests of the birthday girl, will not be permitted to dress up or have make up applied and hair done.
How is make-up applied and hair styled?
Makeup is applied with disposable applicators. The same applicator is never used twice, even on the same guest. Mascara and eyeliner are not used. Over the years, we have tended to little girls from a multitude of ethnicities, as well as varying haircuts and hair textures. We are not, nor do we claim to be, hair stylists/beauticians; our hostesses are talented young girls who have taught themselves how to do popular up-dos via YouTube, etc. Our glittery up-do’s are solely for entertainment purposes. When styling hair, the Sugar and Spice Staff use anti-bacterial hand gel in-between guests. Due to sanitary purposes, combs and brushes are not used. All clips, hair extensions, bobby pins, etc are for each guest to keep, as they are never reused.
What type of nail polish do you use, and do you paint toes too?
We love glitter and color, and littles leaving our parties are proof positive of that! We use nail polish brands such as OPI, Essie, Sinful Colors, Sally Hansen, etc. We are not a nail salon, and therefore do not remove nail polish prior to painting nails during parties - we will simply paint over any leftover chippy polish (naked nails are best!). Due to health concerns we do not paint toes - fingers only!
What do I need to supply?
The Birthday Treat! Parents are responsible for the cake, cupcakes, brownies or the "sweet" of your choice. Sugar & Spice provides child-sized tables and chairs along with paper and plastic products such as plates, forks, napkins and cups for all guests. Sugar & Spice also supplies and serves pink lemonade and distilled water to all guests.
Do you have a refrigerator/freezer for birthday treats and/or ice cream?
Yes! We will gladly refrigerate any treats until it's time to sing Happy Birthday. If you will be in the downtown area prior to your scheduled party time, and would like to drop off your treats early, please contact us to make arrangements.
Is outside food allowed?
Yes, you're more than welcome to bring in any outside food, however, a $15 service charge will be applied to parties serving food other than the birthday treat (cake, cookies, cupcakes, donuts, etc.). For your convenience, we do offer a Pizza Party Add-On.
Is alcohol permitted?
You are welcome to bring adult beverages; NO RED WINE PLEASE. Also, under no circumstances can alcohol cross the threshold between our store and the sidewalk outside. For example, if a Mom is sipping a glass of wine, gets a call on her cell phone and wants to talk outside, the alcohol cannot go with her.
At what point in the party will guests sit down to eat?
Our parties are packed with lots of fun and therefore follow a schedule. We save all food and other birthday treats for just after the fashion show, towards the end, which is typically about an hour into the party. The girls have all received their glittery make-overs, they're all dressed up, and will sit down together to sing to the birthday girl and eat. (e.g. for a 12:30pm party time, we'll sit down around 1:30pm to eat). If having pizza delivered, please plan for it to arrive between 45 minutes - 1 hour after the start of your party.
Do you offer party favors for guests?
Yes, quite often we supply the favors. Please visit our party favors page for info and pricing. If you opt not to purchase favors from Sugar and Spice, you are welcome to bring your own.
What types of songs do you offer for karaoke?
First and foremost, our karaoke machine is a "singing machine", and there are no words to actually read. The girls simply sing into the microphone and can then be heard through the speaker along with the band/artist who is singing. Karaoke is not mandatory, and we never pressure the girls to sing. If guests opt not to sing, we will gladly play music in the background. We have a broad mix of songs from many popular bands/artists. If it's hit the charts in the past few years, there's a good chance it is on our iPod! We are a family business, and therefore are sensitive to the nature and content of the music; we do our best to ensure only clean, wholesome songs are played. A few of the most popular requests are bands/artists such as: JoJo Siwa, One Direction, Katy Perry, R5, Taylor Swift, Dove Cameron, Selena Gomez, 5 Seconds of Summer, Ariana Grande, Fifth Harmony, and Maroon 5. We also have the full Frozen soundtrack, Trolls soundtrack, as well as other popular songs from Disney Princess movies (Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Moana, etc). Understanding that everyone has different tastes in music, we will gladly help tailor songs to the birthday girl's liking. For those guests wanting a more specialized playlist, our singing machine is equipped with an auxillary cord and has wifi capability for iPod/iPad connectivity.
Do you offer drop-in services for hair and/or nails?
Sorry, at this time we do not. If your daughter is wanting a day of fun, along with a glittery up-do, our GNO events are a great substitute!
Do you accept costume donations?
YES! With great enthusiasm we accept girls' and boys' costumes, flower girl dresses, dance recital outfits and other dress up items that are in great condition. Please call 972.693.6141 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to make arrangements.
